Artist Resources: Using Canva

On the www.canva.com homepage there is an option on the top right hand corner to ‘create a design’.  You can select the type of design you need, which will have the dimensions you need.

Eg. an instagram post is square but an instagram story has different dimensions.

You can also choose the orientation

Eg. You can choose an A4 document and select whether you would like it landscape or portrait.

Once you have opened your design you can add text, upload images, and search the website's elements (such as shapes and graphics).

You can use the ‘search elements’ bar to find what you want.

FYI some parts of Canva are only available if you upgrade.  If something is only available on premium it will have a crown sign next to it.

If you click on something with a crown sign it will direct you to upgrade, so if you only want to use the free version simply don’t use anything with the crown sign.

If you add multiple elements and images you can position them and arrange them easily by clicking on ‘Position’ along the top.  You can bring elements forward, backward, to the top or to the back.

You can also align the elements.

If you have many elements you can find them using ‘layers’ where you can click on a layer to select it.

There are many fonts to choose from in the text option.  You can select colours next to the font selection.

Canva also has many templates you can use for the basis of your design where the layout and fonts are designed and you just need to personalise it with the information and any elements relevant to your project.
