Art and Mental Health forum

We heard from a variety people, spanning the spectrum from doctors, to users of the mental health services.

The day consisted of a series of speakers, a psychiatrist championing the use of art and a doctor producing art himself to explore and raise awareness of issues around mental health. We heard from service users working within various settings to promote art and well being and carers changing the perceptions beyond their own lives. Professionals within arts education also presented, not only supporting the cause but providing actions to be taken to move forward.

There was an encouraging openness in the approach to the event by the participants creating a supportive environment and linking networks which will hopefully build on the incredible projects which have already been so successful.

A balance between the statistics and the poignant emotional fist hand stories made the day informative on many levels as well as the great sense of community which was clearly quite special.
